Keepmoat Stadium scores a winner at Best Bar None awards night.
Safer Doncaster Partnership’s Best Bar None scheme led by Doncaster Council, celebrated its fourth annual awards night at Doncaster Racecourse on Monday 18th January.
The awards night, which rewards licensees for the safe and responsible management of licensed premises, saw guests rubbing shoulders with the cream of Doncaster’s licensed trade.
The night, which was hosted by Hallam FM and sponsored by John Smiths and Britvic was attended by over 300 licensees and guests, and the evening raised £2441 which will be donated to Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity.
The overall 2009/10 Doncaster Best Bar None Winners award went to Keepmoat Stadium and was presented by Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies. The Stadium also scooped the best Leisure venue award.
Shane Chalmers, head of the Stadium Management Company said: “As a team we are delighted to have been crowned the overall winners in this year’s Best Bar None awards.
“This award along with the title of Best Leisure Facility is thanks to all the hard work carried out by all our staff to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors to the Stadium. We are continually making improvements to the way we operate and this is the ultimate recognition for our efforts.”
Newly renamed bar Lakota (formally Abenaki) won the 2009/10 Best Bar award, beating last year’s winner Manana Manana into second place. Walkabout claimed the club of the year, with last year’s overall winners St. Leger Tavern retaining the Best Pub award. Community pub awards went to The Dog Daisy in Mexborough for the West and North of the borough and The Olive Tree in Barnby Dunn for the South and East.
Mayor Davies, who delivered the opening address on the night said “Since its launch four years ago, Doncaster Best Bar None has gone from strength to strength. Membership has increased and standards have been raised year on year. It is very satisfying when travelling around the borough to see the logo displayed at the entrance to venues; the plaques are a sign of a pub’s commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable night time environment for customers”.
“I am committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and unfortunately binge drinking can lead to unacceptable behaviour. Best Bar None members however have shown that they want to improve things and with their help we can continue raising standards throughout Doncaster”.
